The Earth Has a Fever, Are We the Virus?

Climate change is a major global concern because of its harmful effects on people’s health and the environment. Because we are all inhabitants of Earth, everyone is a stakeholder, and every person has something to contribute to advance effective pollution prevention awareness. So with the help of Pollution Probe, Live Science, and Rolling Stone, I was able to share awareness as well as this information about global warming with you guys.

How Global Warming Affects Us

Agriculture: Climate change can make it too hot to grow certain crops and droughts could reduce the amount of water available for irrigation. It also causes stronger storms and more floods, which can damage crops. As a result, there will be less healthy food for everyone to eat.

Energy: As temperatures rise, more people will need to keep cool by using more air conditioning, which uses a lot of electricity. And the sources used to provide electricity, such as coal, oil, and natural gas will emit more greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere. As people use more electricity, blackouts and electricity shortages can increase.

Water Supply: Many parts of the world already have very little water and climate change is making it worse. Rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, and increasing droughts will affect the amount of water we have.  As a result, people won’t have much fresh water to provide for crops and to use for themselves.

Health: Heat waves, severe storms, and diseases linked to climate change already threaten people’s health in many places around the world. Extreme heat can cause illnesses such as heat cramps, heat stroke, and even death.

Plants and Animals: Any change in the climate of an area can affect the plants and animals living there, as well as the makeup of the entire ecosystem. If the Earth keeps getting warmer, one fourth of all the plants and animals on Earth could become extinct. Coral reefs are habitats for a lot of sea creatures, but warmer water has already caused coral bleaching, which is a type of damage to corals, which will disrupt the food web that connects all living things in the ocean.

With the help of SoapBoxie, I was able to share with you some of the ways that we can all help to decrease global warming and pollution.

How We Can Help

  • Keep your car in good running condition to avoid emissions.
  • Share a ride, carpool, ride a bike, use a bus, or walk as often as possible.
  • Drive a fuel efficient vehicle.
  • Use the washing machine or dishwasher only when they are full.
  • Take a shower instead of a bath.
  • Use less hot water.
  • Recycle as much as possible.
  • Reuse your shopping bag.
  • Plant trees and plants.
  • Replace regular incandescent light bulbs.
  • Turn off the lights and electronics as much as possible.
  • Use a kitchen cloth instead of paper towels.
  • If you see any litter, pick it up and throw it in the garbage or recycling.
  • Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle!

Those are just a few of the easy ways we can help decrease pollution and global warming and they are just everyday things that you can do. Comment by letting me know if you do any everyday tasks that help the environment. What do you think we should do to help out? Do you think what we are doing now is helping?

  1. It’s devastating to think that we, humans, are killing our planet. I personally try not to litter and tell others not to, and if I happen to see any trash I make sure to pick it up. Thank you for raising awareness on this topic.

    1. Even the smallest actions we make will affect our Earth, so I think its really awesome that you do this, since many people have the thought that its just one piece of garbage, so it doesn’t make any change, yet it does.

    1. What we do on planet Earth, affects us and our Earth. Hamzah, I don’t think we can completely prevent global warming, but just like I stated above, we can do those everyday things to lessen the issue of global warming.

  3. Hi Sundal. I honestly wish people can understand what they’re getting themselves into. We’re pretty much destroying our home. Before it gets worse, hopefully we can raise awareness. Keep up the great work!

    1. Hana, thank you for reading my post. We hear a lot about global warming, but don’t think it is as bad as it really is and the problem is, it getting worse day by day. And we don’t realize it, but the smallest thing we do affects Mother Earth.
